Who said green cars can’t be mean? Not Porsche. On the eve of the Geneva Auto Show, the Stuttgart-based company took the wraps off the 918 Spyder Concept, a 2-seat mid-engine supercar with hybrid and electric drive technology.
Porsche 918 Spyder Concept - John Lamm
Just how fast is this thing? Well, Porsche says the 918 Spyder Concept hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 3.2 seconds, and it blasts to a top speed of 198 mph. Not only that, it laps the Nürburgring in less than 7 minutes 30 seconds, which means it’s even faster than the hallowed Carrera GT.
Just how green is it? Porsche says that, when driven accordingly, the plug-in hybrid 918 Spyder Concept gets an outstanding 78 mpg, with an emissions level of just 70 grams of C02 per kilometer.
The 918 Spyder Concept is powered by a high-revving V-8 related to the 3.4-liter in the Porsche RS Spyder racing car. In 918 Spyder form, this mid-mounted engine revs to 9200 rpm and produces more than 500 bhp. Electric motors at the front and rear axles add an additional 218 horsepower to the output. The V-8’s power, and that of the rear electric motor, reaches the Spyder Concept’s rear wheels via a 7-speed PDK gearbox. The drive to the front wheels is pure electric, via a fixed ratio. The liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack behind the cockpit can be charged at home, or by brake regeneration. Read the rest of this entry »

Murray State freshman Isaiah Canaan typically spends a few minutes at the end of practice each day hoisting up crazy trick shots better suited for a game of H-O-R-S-E than anything else.
Never has he even attempted one quite like the shot he sank during an actual game on Tuesday night.

FYI, BRB, ROFL, TTYL, LOLZ!!!! (Courtesy Kotaku)
Sick of typing the same web slang over and over again? That’s NP — the Fast Finger keyboard has your abbreviation needs covered.
Unveiled at the 2010 Toy Fair show in New York and picked up by Kotaku, the versatile new peripheral turns the function keys at the top of the board into one-button common internet acronyms like LOL, BRB, FYI and TTYL. Quite handy for heavy chatters, not to mention social network addicts, IMO.
The Fast Finger packs a few other neat features, like the ability to switch between the standard QWERTY layout and alphabetical order, making it a nice option for new typists.
No word yet on the keyboard’s overall quality (looks a bit flimsy from here), but at about $25 bucks, it won’t break the bank. Smart pricing FTW! Sound cool? Check out the official site ASAP. CYA!

LA forward - Pau Gasol
LOS ANGELES (AP)—Every time Kobe Bryant(notes) misses a game—which isn’t often— the Los Angeles Lakers give another example of how much championship depth they have.
Shannon Brown(notes) set career highs with 27 points and 10 rebounds while starting in Bryant’s place, and the Lakers kept rolling with a 104-94 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night.
The fourth-year guard made his third start and had his first career double-double, scoring eight points in the final 1:13 while Bryant sat out his fourth straight game because of a sprained left ankle.
“I didn’t really know that Kobe was going to be out again, and that I was going to start until we had our pregame talk,” Brown said. “I just tried to come out and be aggressive. That team was a great team for me to play against. They’re the type of team that likes to get up and down, and I like to play like that. Read the rest of this entry »

Windows Phone
BARCELONA, Spain (AFP) – Microsoft unveiled on Monday a new version of its mobile operating system as the US software giant seeks to regain lost ground in the highly competitive smartphone market.
Chief executive Steve Ballmer presented the Windows Phone 7 Series at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, ending months of speculation about what Microsoft had in store for the industry’s biggest trade show.
“We’re taking a step, I think a big step,” Ballmer said, adding that devices fitted with the new software would be available in time for the winter holiday shopping season. “I’m enthusiastic about the direction that we’re heading.”
“We hope 7 is our lucky number,” he said.
Microsoft has been up against strong competition from Internet giant Google’s Android, as both newcomers fight for a share of a market dominated by the Blackberry and Apple’s iPhone. Read the rest of this entry »

Valentines Day
Valentine’s Day. A day many men dread but most women wait for with great anticipation.
A lot of guys see Valentine’s Day as no more than a “Hallmark holiday.” They think they can just make dinner reservations and call it a day. The majority of women, however, attach real importance to what their man does (or does not do) on this day. As a guy, you don’t want to do it wrong.
Here are 10 scenarios to avoid if you want to have a happy woman next to you this Valentine’s Day.
1. What are we doing? Have a plan. Never “wing it” on Valentine’s Day. You need to be the one who decides what the two of you are going to do. Do not just pick her up and say, “So what type of food do you feel like
tonight?” This is the one night you need (and are expected to) show your romantic side. Step up and show her that you have one.
2. What kind of flowers are these? Before you buy flowers for your girl, gather some key information. It is important to know what kind of flowers she likes. And one of the biggest mistakes is giving her flowers she is allergic to. Make sure you know of any floral allergies before giving her flowers. If you don’t, then she will spend the day sneezing. Even worse, if you send the flowers to her office, her co-workers will be asking her whether you pay any attention to her, and you will be quickly thrown under the Valentine’s Day bus. Hollywood.com Says: Loaded with laughs but short on action, this big-budget sequel feels less like a comic book flick and more like a superhero version of ‘Arthur.’ Iron Man 2, Jon Favreau’s much-anticipated follow-up to his breakthrough 2008 blockbuster, is less a comic book flick than it is a superhero version of Arthur, [...] […]
